CQ Marblehead Champs - 27th Feb 10

The weather was perfect, a warm day, blue skies with some scattered cumulus, winds generally 10-15kts. The Burrum Heads venue was excellent, a large body of water with clear approaches, plenty of scope to alter courses, and an embankment high enough for a good view. Shade was provided by a large marquee, courtesy of Wide Bay Water. Racing started a little late while we waited for well-known skipper who had entered but did not show. PRO Matt Hunter was kept busy as the wind slowly backed during the day from SSE to NE.

There was spirited and close racing between the two Scourges of Bruce Yarrow and Mark Beneke, who between them won every race. There was also great competition and close scores further back in the fleet. Ray Nasmith good-naturedly earned the white cane award (awarded when your buoy contacts exceed your sail number plus your size in socks). A special mention should be made of Craig Gray, as a less-than-twelve month skipper, for his excellent result and his “learn on the job” co-operative friendly attitude, and Steve Tyler who finished third on his return to radio sailing after a gap of some ten years. It was voted an enjoyable days sailing.
