Mirage Radio Yachts is having a spring overhaul.
IOM class
To coincide with the new site I am announcing the prerelease of a new IOM called the Cheinz.
Using elements of the current theme of chined hulls, there are also some touches of a slightly different approach to the underwater lines.
I have used an elliptical theme for sections 20-50% back to soften the effect of circular sections used on the current crop of designs.
It still has those on the entry sections but then they transition to the elliptical type to create an easily driven hull.
Wetted area is still on the low side, and the chines minimize windage in heavier breezes, and add some “bite” when sailing to windward.
The Cheinz prototype will be sailed in the 2011 IOM Worlds in West Kirby, and if the promise shown in its 2 outings since it’s launch continues, it should prove to be very competitive.
All going well it will be joining the production line sometime after August 2011.
The other production boats,Evo and Mad Max are still being made.
The track record of the Mad Max speaks for itself and the Evo in the hands of Paul Jones has performed exceptionally well. It has won every event entered since its launch in Nov 2010 except for it’s second placing in the Australian Nationals.
Also on the design side, a slightly modified Evo design has been made in wood ( a beautiful job too!), by Ian Dundas in Scotland.
Named Eco, he recently won the Scottish IOM Championships with this boat.
The sail making side of things has also changed slightly with new profiles proving very good.
I have found a supply of mylar film that has a very smooth finish and is producing very nice sails.
I have in stock the 11.0mm x .5mm High tensile aluminium masts for IOM’s, which are performing really well.
